LL, a 54-year-old traveling nurse was charged with "Tampering with a Consumer Product" under 18 U.S.C. § 1365(a)(4).
She pleaded guilty to diverting portions of prescription morphine meant for her nursing home patients. LL would take small amounts of liquid morphine from the prescription vials then replace the substance with water. LL used the morphine herself to satisfy her heavy opioid addiction. LL admitted to the offense immediately, resigned her nursing licenses, and underwent intensive substance abuse treatment. She has been sober since shortly after she was caught.
The low sentence is attributed to LL's genuine remorse and contrition, early acceptance of responsibility, and a showing of strong community support.
